Order the correct thermal camera — task due Sat 3 Oct 2026 (week 40)

A task brief for your Google Task "Order the correct thermal camera" (no notes). "Correct" means the one Friday's lab showed you need: a camera that streams from the rack as a plain webcam, not one with its own screen. Written Sat 3 Oct 2026 (week 40) at 05:40 PDT on the Intel by the event-briefs pass, from this morning's answered requests §3 · spacesheep, Gmail, Friday's lab photos and a spec check.

Do it now

  1. Order an InfiRay P2 Pro or a Topdon TC001 on Amazon (Vanish AI account, as usual): P2 Pro · TC001. On Linux both show up as ordinary USB webcams (UVC), so an aifoundry host can stream one without a custom driver. Same sensor class: 256×192, 25 Hz, 40 mK. The P2 Pro is a 9 g phone dongle; the TC001 is bigger and comes with Windows software. A 2023 review priced them at $250–300 and $230–280; check today's price.
  2. Not the P3. Your 26 Sep plan named the Thermal Master P3 (~$300, on Edwin Chiu's advice). It talks its own USB protocol: on Linux there's one hobbyist library, and there's no macOS support. It's better for the slow lock-in runs (under 35 mK), not for a live stream.
  3. Or try a free one first. Sunday 11:00 is your note to Edwin about his FLIR E8. FLIR's spec for the current E8 Pro lists USB video streaming at 9 Hz and 320×240. Ask him which E8 he has. It's a loan, so it doesn't replace buying one.

What blocks it: nothing. The order takes two minutes and arrives in a day or two.

Last time, and what was checked
  • No thermal-camera order is in your mail. This morning's answered-requests pass searched Gmail, and a second search at 05:40 (thermal, FLIR, InfiRay, Topdon, Thermal Master × order/shipped/receipt) found none either.
  • Where lab gear goes: Amazon, placed on behalf of Vanish AI, LLC. The last one was the emissivity film for the camera: order 113-3826397-0244213, Thu 1 Oct, JVCC Kapton 1 mil × 3/4 in, $15.44, delivered Friday.
  • Nate's camera at the lab is a pistol-grip handheld with its own screen (your Fri 12:25 photo). It lives on the centre bench and charges over USB-C to USB-A.
  • Mounting: Roman said to point it at the card's back, not the heatsink. The ~$190 clamp-and-arm kit from the lab plan is for the long runs (lab brief · spacesheep).
  • Sources: P2 Pro and TC001 specs and prices from AnandTech's capsule review of both; UVC on Linux per the PyThermalCamera and P2Pro-Viewer projects (§3); FLIR E8 Pro spec sheet (CDW listing); the P3 Linux library is p3-ir-camera on GitHub.
